Your Accushield kiosk needs to be online in order to work properly.  "Online" means that your kiosk is connected to a Wi-Fi network with stable internet access.  If your kiosk is having issues staying online, try the steps below.

Internet

Many people use the terms "Wi-Fi" and "internet" interchangeably to mean access to the internet.  But, Wi-Fi and internet are two different things.  Your Accushield kiosk connects to your Wi-Fi network.  Your Wi-Fi network has to be connected to an internet service provider (Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, etc.) that provides access to the internet.  Test your internet with the following steps.

  • Check to make sure your kiosk is connected to Wi-Fi.  Click the link below for instructions:
  • Perform an internet speed test
    • On a computer or smart phone, connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your kiosk
    • Go to https://www.speedtest.net and hit "GO" to test your internet speed
    • If you have a stable internet connection, your download and upload speeds should be more than 1 Mbps and ping should be less than 300ms
  • If you do not have internet access on your Wi-Fi network or it is not stable, contact your internet service provider or the IT contact for your community.

Wi-Fi

Once you've confirmed that your Wi-Fi network has a stable internet connection, the next step is to take a look at some factors that may be causing issues with the connection between your Accushield kiosk and your Wi-Fi network:

  • Distance from your Wi-Fi router
    • If your Accushield kiosk is far away from your Wi-Fi router or access point, your Wi-Fi signal may be too weak to provide a stable internet connection
    • Consider moving your Wi-Fi router closer to your kiosk if possible or adding a Wi-Fi extender or an additional Wi-Fi access point
  • Too many devices on your Wi-Fi network
    • If many devices are connected to your Wi-Fi network (such as phones, computers, or TVs), they may slow your Wi-Fi and internet connection enough to affect your Accushield kiosk
    • To free up your Wi-Fi network, disconnect devices that are seldom used, connect heavy-use devices using Ethernet, or add an additional Wi-Fi router
  • Guest or public Wi-Fi networks are typically less reliable than private networks
    • Connect your Accushield kiosk to a private Wi-Fi network used by your community's staff
  • "Failed to obtain IP address" error
    • This error message usually shows up when accessing a Wi-Fi network, whether it is the first time you are trying to connect to the Wi-Fi network or one you have been connected to and saved on your device. This error message means your router can’t assign an IP address to your device, so it can not access the internet using that Wi-Fi network
    • The first method you should try is to forget the network and sign into it again
    • Next, try restarting your router and see if that fixes it.  Most routers have a reset button.  You can also disconnect it and plug it back in
    • Finally, try restarting your kiosk
  • If you still do not have stable internet access, contact the IT contact for your community

Cellular Internet

Another option is to connect your Accushield kiosk to a cellular internet connection using a mobile hotspot from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, or another cellular carrier.  Contact a cellular carrier to purchase a mobile hotspot and data plan.
